In yet another move, to make the e-ticketing system more convenience to thier customer, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched the IMPS ( Interbank Mobile Payment Service) for its customer in the e-ticketing site www.irctc.co.in.
IMPS is a merchant payment system, which allows customers to make instant,24*7, interbank payments to merchants or enterprises via mobile phone.

So, even if one does not have a Credit Card/Debit Card or a net banking facility he may still be able to book a rail e-ticket making the payment through the IMPS in IRCTC's website.
Customer, who is a mobile banking user of any bank, in the IMPS network, can make the payment to a merchant in the network through IMPS. This payment option, therefore, will make railway ticket booking much easierand safer to use.
Explaining the working of system, he said, " A customer gets himself registered linking his mobile number with his bank account. He then gets an MMID (Mobile Money Identifier), a 7-digit number from the bank. The combination of the mobile number and the MMID is unique for a particular account.
He also gets an M-PIN (Mobile PIN), which is a secret password from the bank. The customer needs to authenticate his transactions using the M-PIN.
He has to download the mobile banking application or use SMS /USSD facility provided by the bank.
The transaction is then performed with his MMID and M-PIN, using mobile banking application or SMS / USSD facility
IMPS charges are kept at Rs. 5 for transaction amount of up to Rs. 5000/- and Rs. 10 for transaction amount of more than Rs. 5000/.
